Overall, the lesson went well. However, I didnt get to the main part of my lesson, which was putting them in groups and having to write a short letter to a wife from a spy by using 5 vocabulary words. The main reason I didnt get to it was that the lesson started a couple of minutes late due to the mess of the schedule for the day, and also that it was a 40 minute lesson instead of the usual 45 which I only found out in the middle. This cut off around 10 minutes, meaning I spent most of the 35 minutes on understanding the words and the worksheet.
The girls enjoyed the presentation, and it was kind of a game to guess the Hebrew word based on the English and image.
The worksheet drove the point home of the words. As I asked the girls after the presentation whether they thought they knew the words now, they of course said not yet. I explained to them that this is why we have a worksheet. First we build a general picture, and then we drive the point home in our memory with a worksheet.
The worksheet went well except that I used terminology very obvious to me as a native speaker that they didnt pick up on. For example, there was one fill in the blank question that almost every girl asked me about. It was "Help! We are running out of ___________. The problem was, they thought running was to run, so they plugged the word 'escape' there. Obviously, running out means נגמר, and once I said that they got it, but it was definitely a lesson I will take with me.
Overall, it was a good lesson. I reached my goal, they now know the meanings of 15 or so vocabulary words and how to use them in a sentence.
