First Game!

So the Modiin Minors had their first ever game, in a Chanukah tournament in Modiin. It was really cute, them in their blue jerseys vs us in our non blue t shirts. It was the first game for all of my players, and they did pretty well to be honest. Before the game there was a skills competition for throwing the ball far and running fast. We have a kid (B) who lost in the finals for running by 0.01, but threw the furthest. Eitan did not throw the farthest or run the fastest, but he did hit second base on his throw from home plate which he was trying to throw to.

The game ended up being 16-14, the other team, thanks to a 4 inning game with a 4 run per inning limit. We recorded one out on defense (second baseman got a grounder and touched second base to get the force), while they recorded 5. Most of their team was a year older than most of us, and their team had played t ball the year before. Overall, was a really good learning experience for our team, as they slowly understand what baseball is and how to play. They got three strikes and then got to hit off a tee if they struck out.

Eitan had a very solid game. He batted 5 times, and only needed the tee once. He reached base 4 out of 5 times on ground ball hits, and he scored 3 runs. Most importantly, he smiled and had a great time competing. On defense he made some stops of pop ups that bounced.

It was fun for Eitan that Pops, SabaDov, Mummy, and his sisters came to watch. And it was very cute seeing him shake hands after the game with the other team. Not high fives for that little man. Real shabbat shalom handshakes.

I enjoyed coaching a lot, it is a very intense hour at that age, explaining how a batting order works, and when to run on the hit, and who to throw the ball to when you get it.

After 4 months of practice, it was good to get a game for them. Looking forward to the next practices where we discuss what we did well and what we could have done better.

Sirens every night

So for many nights out of the last 7, we have been woken up in the wee hours of the morning (between 3-4) by houthi misile sirens from Yemen. Very annoying. But TG for the most part, we go back to sleep after the ten minutes, including all kids, and most nights Meital sleeps through it. It used to be that we ran into their room to get them, I took Eitan while Shifra took Hadar, but now they are very capable of getting there themselves. But my big two have a funny key differences during sirens, day or night. The second the siren starts, Hadar bolts to the room. She takes off like a cannon. She will elbow and push her way through to make sure she gets there in the most direct way. Very mission focused. Eitan on the other hand, is a classic oldest. He will wait and make sure everyone is coming with him before he goes through. Love all three of them and wish them lives without too many of these sirens.

Next year in Tehran?

Well, we knew it was coming, just didn't know when. Another crazy week in the '20s here in Israel. Thursday night was wonderful. it...
