A Topsy Turvy Kinda Day

As we still are waiting to enter our apartment in Ganei (24 months late), the question of what to do with the kids next year is on our minds.

When the day started, the plan was:

Daniel: Work

Shifra: Home with Rinat

Eitan: 2nd grade in Chashmo

Hadar: Potentially 1st grade in Chashmo, skipping Gan Chova (mostly because the gan in Ganei isn't good apparently and mostly 4 year olds)

Meital: Gan Iriya in Chashmonaim

Rinat: Home with Shifra

As the day ends, the plan is:

Daniel: Work

Shifra: Teaching at Ariel

Eitan: Second great in Shivtei

Hadar: Gan Chova at Lehava

Meital: our third kid at Gan Tchelet

Rinat: A Mishpachton in Chashmo

Small things that led to this:

Understood that skipping kindergarten isn't recommended after Shifra meeting with principal

A teacher at Ariel not working out, deciding today

Most importantly, a Mishpachton not planning to open reached back out telling Shifra she changed her mind and were we still interested.

Eye Vee

So on Wednesday afternoon we got a call from Meital's ganenet that she threw up. We picked her up, she threw up twice in the car just on the way home from Maon. She threw up about 20 times in 3 hours. I took her to Terem where she got an IV and we spent a few hours there. The next day she stayed home and wasn't herself, and in the evening both Rinat and Eitan started throwing up. The next day we decided to take Meital to Shaarei Tzedek (she was super weak and not very functional) and Eitan to Terem. Shaarei Tzedek on a friday was actually fun with all the volunteers bringing stickers, marshmallows, playing music, etc. But didn't feel necessary because when she had a popsicle she ended up being fine and getting energy back.

Meital has now had 4 IVs/blood tests in 2 weeks including the ones pre and for her tonsil/adnoid surgery. She is a Gibora.

Hopes for 30s (Can't believe my number starts with a 3)

First of all, bday was nice. We went to Reut pool, I did 30 laps for 30, had a delicious hamburger, and was at Jonah and Eliya's wedding and did the 7th Bracha under the Chuppah for the first time.

In the car, Shifra asked me what my goals for my 30s are.

In no order, here is what I said:

  • Enjoy and truly be present with the kids in these young years. Realized that my youngest will be 11 at the end, and Eitan will be 17 (holy heck)
  • Move into our new home and build/find a new community
  • Continued success at work, being ahead of the AI curve. Continued financial success and get better at investing.
  • Continue to be young at heart with Shifra in our relationship
  • Finding more time to learn and be connected with Hashem
  • Continue to stay healthy, get more into shape
  • Win my first (!?) championship

brutal playoffs week

A crazy fact about me is I have never actually won a championship in the many sports I play. This year seemed to be our year. We went into the Kiddush Club League playoffs as the 1 seed. We had a huge scare in the first round against the 8 seed but survived. And we went into the semis ready to survive again, without our best roster present and very much a next man up mindset.

The game started fine, we scored, they scored, was a very close game. Coming out of halftime we got a safety and the ball, poised to take a 2 possession lead. But we couldn't do it. Then some more back and forth, huge plays, we had the ball with a couple minute left and a 3 point lead. We were a first down away from icing it, but couldn't do it (they made some unbelievable plays), which led to them getting the ball back on the final drive with 1:22. They started driving, I made a touchdown saving play deep on a first down to knock the ball down, but there we were. 3rd down from the 10, man defense. I saw the ball was going to someone else and I pulled the flag at the 2 with ten seconds left. THey were in a rush to get set, and someone on our team felt we weren't set (Moro) so he called timeout. This gave them time to set a play etc. They ran a play to my guy who crossed over, I got my hand on it but he still caught it on a diving catch to walk off. I stood there stunned and in disbelief. I have now watched the play way too many times.

Football season was fun. I like to be commissioner, I like to lead Modiin. Playing time issues with friends became an issue, but navigated that to the best of my ability. We won some big games, lost the one that mattered, and that sucks.

If that wasn't bad enough, I had two more softball games that week in the playoffs, and we lost both. Actually was my best two games in a couple years, getting a bunch of hits against fast pitchers and catches in the field.

3 playoff losses in one week, in two different sports. Is that a record?
