Flying high from our last game, in which we blew a 19-0 lead but held on to win with a defensive stand, we entered the semifinal feeling confident.
The game started well, with us taking a 6-0 lead into halftime. We promptly gave it up, then scored, then gave it up, and we were down 14-13 with a few minutes left. We made a huge stop to give our offense the ball with a minute left.
We drove down the field, and ended up having 3rd and 2 at the 4 with about 14 seconds left. You can see what happens here:
Season over, dream over. For this year. We already have some takeaways from next year, including making sure we have some bigger guys for our lines, having 10 set plays in our playbook, not locking into one receiver pre-play etc.
Looking back at the game is frustrating, because we had many chances. Especially annoying is that the way to beat their defense is so obvious now looking back. It's the TE going out when the rusher goes in, and he is wide open.
This loss is gonna hurt for some time, I still don't think I have ever won a championship.
Overall, it was a very fun season, in a very fun league (6 on 6 is an amazing combo of not tackle but also aggressive). I loved our team, I loved making the lineups every week, and I loved the guys on our team who I grew up with but lost touch from over the past few years. Can't wait for next year. And now - its time for softball.
